EGT Sensors can be used as an indicator of combustion efficiency, as well as turbine performance.  We normally recommend to install and read EGT for an individual cylinder, near the head flange. 

note: We do not recommend taking the EGT reading after the collector and never after the turbo.  the exhaust gas has cooled by this point.
